The Resonance bag series makes its world debut
During the annual design festival in Copenhagen, the Marimekko flagship store will host an exhibition created in collaboration with cutting-edge Danish designers.
This June, Marimekko is poised to turn heads at Copenhagen’s 3daysofdesign festival with the launch of the Resonance bag series. These totes are the first-ever products made from Vireo, a pioneering hemp-based material developed by Hemp Bio, a start-up by the Danish textile design company Kvadrat.
“Marimekko has always walked the intersection of art, design, fashion, and architecture. What better way to celebrate than by participating in 3daysofdesign, with an installation showcasing Marimekko both in the space of furniture design and in the space of material innovation,” says Rebekka Bay, Creative Director of Marimekko.
Vireo takes over Pilestræde
For those attending the 3daysofdesign festival, a visit to Marimekko’s flagship store is non-negotiable. Beyond unveiling the Resonance bag series, this pop-up promises a deep dive into the wonders of Vireo.
“For over 70 years, Marimekko has collaborated with artists and designers from all walks of life. True to our history of innovation and surprise, we are excited to present not one, but two collaborations during 3daysofdesign. Through our partnerships with Kvadrat and Bunn Studio, we are launching the new premium Vireo material in the Resonance bag series and as upholstery in furniture designed by Bunn Studio exclusively for us,” Bay continues.
This isn't just about plush seating; it's a bold statement on the material's potential. Crafted by Gribskov Inventarsnedkeri, the furniture pieces flaunt Vireo's adaptability, with cushions stuffed with upcycled textiles from Marimekko’s Helsinki factory, thanks to a partnership with textile recycler Rester.
In town? Don’t miss this conceptual takeover at the Marimekko flagship store (Pilestræde 29) from Wednesday to Friday, June 12–14, between 10 am and 6 pm.

Hemp-based horizons
The cornerstone of the Resonance bag series, Vireo, is composed of over 70 percent hemp, which is harvested and carded in France, and then dyed and treated in Italy. Hemp, a regenerative crop, requires minimal water, no pesticides, and enhances soil health with its deep-root system.
The inside of the Resonance bags is lined with organic cotton, printed at Marimekko’s own textile printing factory in Helsinki, Finland.
Set for release in September 2024, the Resonance bags will be available in three sizes—small, medium, and large—and will come in two colors: camel and charcoal. Find them at selected Marimekko channels.
