Oiva Iso Unikko bowl—A special gift for Design Museum
Marimekko has released a slew of special limited-edition collectibles to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Unikko print by Maija Isola. One of the home collection’s highlights is the cheerfully large and numbered Oiva Iso Unikko bowl by Sami Ruotsalainen. Bowl number one was donated to the joint collections of the Museum of Finnish Architecture and Design Museum Helsinki.
Marimekko designers added an entirely new dimension to the Unikko print by playing with its scale. The large-sized pattern variation Iso Unikko represents a new and more abstract expression of the original design while remaining quintessentially Unikko.
The 8 L Oiva Iso Unikko bowl, limited to 60 numbered pieces worldwide, is adorned with the boldest of blooms. The bowl has a special anniversary stamp and production number on the bottom, making it a true collector's item. Marimekko wanted to donate the first Oiva Iso Unikko bowl to the museum collections to highlight the importance of preserving Finnish design heritage. Bowl number two was raffled among Marimekko’s community members.
“For six decades, the Unikko print has brought joy to people's lives and homes all over the world—we’re happy that the museums accepted our donation and will join us in celebrating the anniversary of a true icon of print design,” says Minna Kemell-Kutvonen, Design Director, Home & Print Design at Marimekko.
