Laila Gohar for Marimekko
What happens in bed? Just about everything. Together, Laila Gohar and Marimekko celebrate the softer side of life—and its epicenter, the bedroom. Think coffee-fueled mornings, stolen naps, impromptu dinners in bed and can’t-look-away movie nights.
Curated by New York-based artist and creative force Laila Gohar, the collection captures her art of living through a playful interplay of bold Marimekko colors and archive stripes by Maija Isola.
The collection includes everything you need for a five-star snooze. Dreamy PJs? Check. Bold bedding? Check. Mugs for your wake-up routine and diaries for everything that happens before you drift off again. It’s all set for sweet dreams.
Stripes on stripes on stripes. The collection features four archival prints by Maija Isola: Basso, Puhveli, Rastas and Lukkari.
The perfect pair. The Heili pajama shirt and Vilke pajama pants are ready for joyful mixing and matching.
1. Let’s start in bed. What’s the first thing you do when you wake up? Laila Gohar: Kiss my son, kiss my boyfriend and make a coffee, in quick succession.
2. Out of all the rooms in the house—why the bedroom? And why pajamas? LG: I love the luxury of time in bed. I can spend the best part of my weekends in pajamas drifting from the bed, to the kitchen, to the sofa, back to the bed.
3. What’s one thing every bed should have (besides great sheets)? LG: People you love, or people you fancy.
4. Do you remember your first encounter with Marimekko? LG: Marimekko was very much part of my childhood. I first wore a striped Marimekko T-shirt at seven years old and there’s photo evidence!
5. You have one hour in Milan with no plans. Where are you, and what are you eating? LG: Trattoria della Pesa, and a stroll in the sun during spring to admire the wisteria, magnolia and cherry blossom!
